Elise presents her internationally acclaimed workshop on scoliosis. By combining the yoga postures with breathing awareness, one can develop structural alignment, creating a more normal and symmetrical pattern.
Through yoga, one can find the balance point that allows the scoliosis curve to coexist with gravity and activate the body’s natural line.
For teachers interested in becoming Yoga for Scoliosis certied trainers, this workshop provides 10 hours of the 20-hour requirement. Please bring your continuing students with scoliosis.
If you did not take Yoga for Scoliosis, Part 1 last year, the Friday night session is mandatory as we will start with a quick review of the basics. We also suggest studying Elise’s DVD and/or book which is available at IYILA.
Part 2 will emphasize beginning and more advanced standing poses, back strengtheners, backbends, inversions and twists. Adjustments and props including wall ropes will be used to assist participants in working with their own scoliosis.
Prerequisite: A minimum of six months Iyengar Yoga experience.
Elise Browning Miller, M.A. in Therapeutic Recreation from UNC-CH, is a Certied Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT), and isCertied from International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT). Elise has been teaching yoga throughout the US and internationally for over 30 years.
Elise has successfully used yoga to minimize the effects of her own scoliosis. Elise co-authored a comprehensive book Yoga for Scoliosis – A Path for Students and Teachers, as well as a Yoga for Scoliosis DVD. Her joyous personality and ease of communication endear her to students with a teaching style that is down-to-earth, precise and nurturing.
