The Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India is the mother institute for all of Iyengar Yoga studios and associations around the world. In this course, Marla will lead classes that have been taught by B.K.S. Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar. Each Saturday in this course will feature a different class that was taught as part of the weekly public class schedule at RIMYI.
Prerequisite: The course is open to students with a minimum of three years of Iyengar Yoga experience and are able to practice Sirsasana and Salamba Sarvangasana (with or without the support of a wall) for five minutes each.
Part of the Institute’s Centenary Celebration, this class is a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of BKS Iyengar. A portion of the proceeds will go to Bellur, Guruji’s birthplace, to continue his work improving the lives and education of residents. The Bellur foundation has built a hospital; elementary, secondary schools for the village children, along with a college. In addition, a yoga hall and dormitory were dedicated in 2016.
