throughout the day

Celebrated throughout India and Nepal, Guru Purnima is an annual festival dedicated to all teachers. Since ancient times the Guru has played a pivotal role as a trusted guide, teacher and mentor on the path.

In Sanskrit, the word “guru” literally means “one who can remove darkness and ignorance.” It can also be translated as “weighty,” implying that a Guru is someone whose counsel, meticulous instruction and guidance in yoga is to be taken to heart and not discarded or ignored.

“A Guru is extremely important in the life of someone who wants to advance seriously in a certain discipline. It is the image of the elder who takes you by the hand, the image of God, even.”B.K.S. Iyengar

In each class we will chant the Guru Mantra paying respect to teachers and gurus past, present and future.
